How to use getLowestEphemeralPort method of org.openqa.selenium.net.Interface EphemeralPortRangeDetector class

If anyone actually knew a general and always-applicable answer, it would have been implemented everywhere ages ago and would make our lives SO much easier.

There are many things you can do, but every single one of them has a problem:

1. As Ashwin Prabhu said, if you know the script well, you can observe its behaviour and track some of its variables on window or document etc. This solution, however, is not for everyone and can be used only by you and only on a limited set of pages.

2. Your solution by observing the HTML code and whether it has or hasn't been changed for some time is not bad (also, there is a method to get the original and not-edited HTML directly by WebDriver), but:

   • It takes a long time to actually assert a page and could prolong the test significantly.
   • You never know what the right interval is. The script might be downloading something big that takes more than 500 ms. There are several scripts on our company's internal page that take several seconds in IE. Your computer may be temporarily short on resources - say that an antivirus will make your CPU work fully, then 500 ms may be too short even for a noncomplex scripts.
   • Some scripts are never done. They call themselves with some delay (setTimeout()) and work again and again and could possibly change the HTML every time they run. Seriously, every "Web 2.0" page does it. Even Stack Overflow. You could overwrite the most common methods used and consider the scripts that use them as completed, but ... you can't be sure.
   • What if the script does something other than changing the HTML? It could do thousands of things, not just some innerHTML fun.

3. There are tools to help you on this. Namely Progress Listeners together with nsIWebProgressListener and some others. The browser support for this, however, is horrible. Firefox began to try to support it from FF4 onwards (still evolving), IE has basic support in IE9.

And I guess I could come up with another flawed solution soon. The fact is - there's no definite answer on when to say "now the page is complete" because of the everlasting scripts doing their work. Pick the one that serves you best, but beware of its shortcomings.

You can set the useAutomationExtension capability to false.

    ChromeOptions options = new ChromeOptions();
    options.setExperimentalOption("useAutomationExtension", false);
    WebDriver driver = new ChromeDriver(options);

This capability will help to not load Chrome Automation extension. Due to which, "Failed to load extension" popup would not appear.

But please note you will not be able to perform any window resizing/positioning operations without the Chrome automation extension.

You are using outdated version, it is now:

There is slightly different way of using it now, example:

This is a older thread, but still want to provide input for those who are stuck up at this. You have to make sure that the class file names you are creating are ending with "Test" string. e.g. AppTest, TempTest are all valid class file names, but AppCheck, TempTest1 are invalid name; maven will not detect these files for execution.

Created testng suite file manually as below:

1. Run once your project from Eclipse
2. Refresh your project
3. Now, “test-output” folder will be created under your project –> unfold the folder
4. Double click the ‘index.html’ file -> It will be opened in the Eclipse Browser window or any other external browser (e.g. IE, Google Chrome, FF, MS Edge etc.)
5. Click on the ‘.xml’ link given on the left panel
6. The test suite XML will get opened on the right-side panel
7. Take a copy of the XML content
8. Right click your project >> New >> File
9. Give name of your test suite file (with .xml extension e.g. testng.xml) and click Finish
10. Paste the content that you copied from the ‘index.html’ and amend your suite file as per your needs

Easiest solution would be, add the below lines in surefire plugin.

    <suiteXmlFile>${suiteXmlFile}</suiteXmlFile>
</suiteXmlFiles>

And run your xml file as below,

mvn clean test -Dsurefire.suiteXmlFiles=/path/to/testng.xml

For me to resolve this problem :

On Windows

cd C:\Users\[myname]\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\protractor
npm i webdriver-manager@latest
webdriver-manager update
webdriver-manager start &

On Cent-OS (I used Cent-OS 7.4.* and it worked fine.)

cd /usr/lib/node_modules/protractor/
sudo npm i webdriver-manager@latest
sudo webdriver-manager update
sudo webdriver-manager start &

I also got the same exception:

I tried the following steps:

1. In Eclipse> Project > Clean. (The Exception remained)

2. I ran another project(The testng.xml ran successfully)

After running another project, I ran the project in which I was getting the Exception, and fortunately it worked for me, with no errors.
