Abstract

Women have dominated every facet of the software development industry, including software testing. The women highlighted in this forefront have brilliance, practical knowledge, and a passion for software testing. However, they are all part of a global workforce, working across different geographies, each with its own set of perspectives, insights, and expertise.

One of the special days set aside to honor women's accomplishments is International Women's Day (March 8th). To celebrate International Women’s Day and answer questions about women in software testing, LambdaTest hosted a special AMA with Kristin Jackvony - Author & Principal Engineer, Quality - Paylocity, and Veena Devi - Lead (Developer Relations) - LambdaTest.

The webinar begins where Kristin describes her journey from a music educator to a software tester and the challenges she faced before entering the field of test automation. She explained how her love for teaching helped her write blogs for the testing fraternity, which she then compiled into a book. Furthermore, she mentions a Full Focus Planner to achieve her goals and how she balances her work-life.

Having returned to work after a brief break, Kristin offers career advice to women who have taken a break for personal reasons or want to change careers. According to Kristin - it’s never too late to come back, make a career change, and start a brand new one. She details the multiple software testing areas covered for beginners in her book, such as manual testing, API testing, automation testing, mobile automation, security automation, load testing, etc.

Further, Kristin breaks down what to automate and what not to automate, six testing personas one should avoid & their dos and don'ts, and how to upskill in software testing. She also explains how to handle bugs in production, and quality is everyone's responsibility if you develop a product.

In the end, we held a Q&A session.
