Abstract

Large Language Models have become a dominant point of discussion in software testing since the introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot. But what does it mean for us as engineers? Are they over hyped? What impact will they have on our roles?

Over the past year, I've been writing a book entitled 'AI-Assisted Testing' and in this talk, I want to share what I've learned during my research into LLMs. During the talk, we'll explore how an understanding of how LLMs work can help us develop a mindset that allows us to use LLMs to our advantage in targeted ways. We'll also learn about how to leverage prompt engineer tactics to maximize value from LLMs and advanced ways we can use LLMs such as fine tuning and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). All so that we can engage with LLM-based tools with a healthy skepticism.
