Abstract

Automated testing can help you improve your ROI and test coverage by reducing the time spent running similar tests manually. Because automated tests can be run repeatedly at no additional cost, they save money by allowing you to spend more time working on other parts of your product.

Automated testing greatly improves the quality of the software testing life cycle, but it requires a strategy for choosing which tests to automate. An effective test automation strategy helps you focus your team's efforts on tests having a greater return on investment. It also helps in deciding which tests to automate and which ones to leave manually based on whether the cost of automating them will likely be justified by the value they add.

In this episode of Voices of Community, Julia Pottinger Lead QA Consultant, QualityWorks, has teamed up with Manoj Kumar, VP of Developer Relations at LambdaTest, to discuss how to create effective test automation strategies. They also discuss evaluating and choosing existing automation frameworks and tools.

Simon kicks off the session by discussing the origin of Selenium and the lessons he learned by working with open source. He takes the viewers on a journey of how Selenium came into the picture and the birth of WebDriver.

Julia starts by defining a test automation strategy and the steps to create an effective test automation strategy. She then explains how your QA team plays a crucial role in successfully implementing the test automation strategy.

She then breaks down the approach to creating a test automation strategy by defining certain aspects, such as how, what, who, why, when, and where to create automated tests. Toward the end of the webinar, Julia gives an overview of the test automation strategy template she uses to align test goals with her team.

The webinar ended with a Q&A session.
