The 10,000 Steps of Open Source Project Health | Dmitry Vinnik | Testμ 2022
Human health is complex; it is not something we can buy, it is something we must strive for! This is also true for open-source projects and communities. It is necessary to cultivate a truly dedicated and loyal fanbase. But what exactly do we mean when we say a community or an open source project is "healthy"? This is the question we are attempting to answer at Meta!
In this talk, we'll look at how the Meta’s Open Source team measures the current state of Meta open source projects, as well as how we use these metrics to prioritize and direct our efforts. Finally, we hope to demonstrate how, by examining information about your open source communities, your team can focus on the quality of the projects rather than just the quantity of repositories that you make public.
Dmitry Vinnik is a Lead Developer Advocate at Meta, where he focuses on business messaging and open source projects. His goal is to use open source to help developers be more productive. Dmitry remains a developer first, so he approaches open source projects, creates new educational content, and gives conference talks with the same mindset and passion.
Dmitry has a background in medicine and bioinformatics, but his current focus is on developer wellness and work-life balance.
