About the Talk

It's Time for a TRIM

Automate that. Automate this. Automate all the things… that should be automated. But where does all this automation end? Do we just continue to add test after test, ever increasing that all important rapid feedback loop? Yes, just keep adding, we can just run more tests in parallel to keep the execution time down… Or, another idea, what if we regularly trim them?

That’s right, you need to trim your automated tests. Delete them. Move them to another layer. Remove waste steps. Reduce complexity. Increase maintainability. But how?

Follow the TRIMs mnemonic. In this talk I’m going to share the TRIMs model with you all, to help you frame the creation of new automated tests, but to also serve as a heuristic for your existing automated tests.

Takeaways

  • Demonstrate the TRIMs model
  • Assess an automated test against the TRIMs mdoel
  • Identify automated tests requiring a trim
