Anyone who has tried to maintain a regression suite of Selenium tests knows how difficult it is—synchronization problems, managing test data, adapting to changes in the design of the app or to the application behavior. It is unfortunately easy for a test suite to become more of a burden than a benefit.
The first instinct when automating tests is to copy what the manual tester does to verify the correctness of a site. The goal of test automation needs to be providing equivalent confidence of the correctness of the code in less time, which means leveraging the things automation is good at. We need atomic, autonomous tests that can be executed at scale.
In this talk, Titus will dive into the code to show how to make use of your application’s API to confidently shortcut some of the most challenging parts of automating via the UI. He’ll demonstrate how to fast-forward to specific bookmarks in your user flows dramatically decreasing the time of testing while providing the ability to leverage single-use test data.
Titus Fortner is a core contributor to the Selenium project and the current project lead for Watir (a Ruby test library built on top of Selenium). Titus implemented automated test solutions at multiple companies before joining Sauce Labs, and, as a Solutions Architect at Sauce, he worked extensively with clients to improve their code and their testing strategies. Titus is currently a Sr Developer Advocate at Sauce Labs.
The free online Testµ (TestMu) conference by LambdaTest will talk about trends that matter in the testing landscape and will help testers & developers get a glimpse into the future of testing. Over 30+ speakers including community leaders and leading industry experts will join the event to share their thoughts.
