What is JUnit testing in Java?

JUnit is used to create and execute repeatable tests for compact pieces of code. A unit test is a small, isolated piece of code that tests a program's functionality. This typically involves testing the behavior of a single method or class in isolation from the rest of the program.

JUnit provides a set of annotations and assertions that make it easy to write and run unit tests. Annotations are used to mark methods that contain test code, and assertions are used to specify the expected behavior of the code being tested. For example, the @Test annotation is used to mark a method as a test method, and the assertEquals assertion is used to verify that the expected and actual results of a calculation are equal.

JUnit is typically used as part of the development process to ensure that the code being written is correct and free of errors. By writing and running unit tests early and often, developers can catch bugs and other issues before they become a problem in the final product. This can save time and effort by avoiding the need to fix problems after they have been deployed to users.
