What is Assistive Touch?

Assistive touch is an iPad accessibility feature that attempts to give persons with physical limitations who might find it challenging to use typical gestures and commands the chance to do so using other, more straightforward movements. This can include those who utilize assistive devices like a stylus or head pointer or people with limited hand and finger mobility.

With assistive touch, users can:

  • Use just one finger, a suitable pointer, or a stylus to tap the onscreen controls to mimic actions like pinching and swiping.
  • Give instructions like turning up the volume or locking the screen orientation.
  • Users may also develop and label bespoke gestures by recording their unique movements to perform particular moves.

As a result, individuals can complete more independent chores, even with their reduced mobility.

On the iPad, it is located in the Settings > General > Accessibility section. Once ON, your screen will first display a little white dot. This is mobile and dockable, almost any place on display.

It has four options, as mentioned below:

  • Home: This leads you directly to the home screen; it can be used as an alternative to a physical home screen button.
  • Device: This carries out operations connected to the device, including shaking, rotating the screen, and changing the volume.
  • Gesture: It allows you to make movements using two, three, four, or five fingers. The same blue dots are displayed on the screen after being selected. The multi-touch movements can be executed with a single finger or a helper tool like a stylus.
  • Favorites: This will get you access to all the personalized gestures you have set up.
