Software Testing Metrics

Software Testing Metrics

During software development, it is extremely significant to measure the project's quality, cost, and effectiveness. Successful completion of a project is impossible without measuring these parameters.

These are some of the fundamentals and basic testing metrics that you can adapt to your environment. They are easy to collect and can provide great insights into your testing efforts and what is needed for improvement.

In this guide, we cover the main “Testing” metrics that are used to determine the quality of the products built by the team, as well as whether the team meets the quality standards.

We will try to cover all the important metrics during the test life cycle such as -

  • Analysis - The analysis phase is the first phase of the TMLC (Test Metrics Life Cycle) where we determine the metrics that we will use to measure project/process/testing success.
  • Communication - The first thing that we need to do during this phase, is to explain the identified metrics to the people involved in the testing projects.
  • Evaluation - We analyze the data captured by the test team and once it’s approved, we use it as input to the identified metrics
  • Report - During the last phase of the TMLC, we generate a report that summarizes the results and conclusions of the test metrics, publish it to all relevant stakeholders and take feedback that we will use to improve the process
