Free online tool to convert text with special characters (Unicode) to the Punycode encoding (just ASCII).
LambdaTest provides a free IDN Decoder that converts the domain name with special characters (Unicode) to their actual Punycode encoding.
IDN domains work by decoding the domain name using a system called Punycode. The IDN Decode online tool converts the domain name to Punycode that you receive when you register for an IDN domain. When users enter a URL containing an IDN domain into their web browser, it converts the IDN domain into Punycode and resolves that domain.
Unlike regular domains, IDN domains are encoded using a unique encoding method called Punycode. Punycode transforms characters from languages other than English into a string of letters that represent the original character. The IDN domain will be preceded by "xn-" in raw form to facilitate identification.
An Internet domain name that has at least one label displayed in software programs in a non-Latin character or alphabet is called an Internationalized Domain Name (IDN).
IDNs allow more people to access the Internet in their preferred script and more businesses to localize their brands in different scripts. ASCII letters are used to register most domain names (A to Z, 0 to 9 and the hyphen "-"). However, languages that use non-Latin characters, such as Japanese and Arabic, as well as those that require diacritics, such as Spanish and French, cannot be reproduced in ASCII. As a result, millions of internet users have difficulty navigating the web using scripts and languages that are not their native language. IDNs make the Internet more usable and accessible by allowing domain names to be entered in a wide variety of international scripts.
