If I understand your needs correctly this can be achieved by combining the following:

• using a JUnit method rule which will give you the name of the current method
• creating a Log4j appender at runtime, and configuring it with the name of the method obtained you just obtained

Specifically, you need to create a custom JUnit rule. I chose to extend the TestWatcher as it seems most appropriate

Once you have this you can place it as a rule inside your test class. A rule is simply a field in the test (carrying the @Rule annotation). In here I called it rule (not very imaginative, I admit). In order to log from your test method you need to call rule.getLogger().

This xpath should find it

or use contains like so

But i think the problem would be is that you are not waiting for the element.

You need to fix your CSS selector:

driver.findElement(By.cssSelector("input[value=csv]")).click();

Note that, the main problem with your selector is missing [ and ] for the attribute check. There is also no need to put csv into quotes in this case. [value=csv] would also work, but it's better to be explicit about the element your are locating.

Your problem is here:

My solution is to use xpath to find options that are children of the select. Any xpath method can be used to find the select; in this example I am finding the select by id.

After a little more thought I realize the option can be found entirely with xpath:

If you are trying to find out how much time does it take to load a page completely using Selenium WebDriver (a.k.a Selenium 2).

Normally WebDriver should return control to your code only after the page has loaded completely.

So the following Selenium Java code might help you to find the time for a page load -

If this does not work then you will have to wait till some element is displayed on the page -

Your main issue is the version compatibility between the binaries you are using as follows :

• You are using chromedriver=v2.9
• Release Notes of chromedriver=2.9 clearly mentions the following :

Supports Chrome v31-34

• Your Chrome Browser version is unknown to us. (assuming Chrome Browser is updated to v65.x level)
• Your Selenium Client version is 3.10.0.
• Your JDK version is 1.8.0_101 which is pretty ancient.

So there is a clear mismatch between the JDK v8u101 , Selenium Client v3.10.0 , ChromeDriver version (v2.9) and the current Chrome Browser version (v65.0)

Solution

• Upgrade JDK to recent levels JDK 8u162.
• Keep Selenium to current levels Version 3.10.0.
• Upgrade ChromeDriver to stable ChromeDriver v2.36 level.
• Keep Chrome version at Chrome v65.x levels. (as per ChromeDriver v2.36 release notes)
• Clean your Project Workspace through your IDE and Rebuild your project with required dependencies only.
• Use CCleaner tool to wipe off all the OS chores before and after the execution of your test Suite.
• If your base Chrome version is too old, then uninstall it through Revo Uninstaller and install a recent GA and released version of Chrome.
• Execute your @Test.

Based on your problem statement, the problem you are facing is that selenium is opening a fresh firefox profile where cookies are not enabled.

driver = new FirefoxDriver(); This is where you have to fix in such a way that it opens up a profile where cookies are enabled. One way is to create your own profile in firefox and open that profile instead of directly opening by FirefoxDriver();

This way you can do what ever setting you need to in that profile and run your tests under that settings. If enabling cookies is the need, do that in firefox options.

Yes, when you choose Java as your programming language while working with selenium, you can perform all things that are logically possible in Java.

Take your example, xpath is a function which takes string arguments. So Like in Java we concatenate multiple strings using +. you can do the same thing here.
