How to use refresh method of org.openqa.selenium.Interface WebDriver.Navigation class

Google shrinks their css classes etc., so it is not easy to identify everything.

Also you have the problem that you have to "wait" until the site shows the result. I would do it like this:

WebDriverException: Element is not clickable at point (x, y)

This is a typical org.openqa.selenium.WebDriverException which extends java.lang.RuntimeException.

The fields of this exception are :

• BASE_SUPPORT_URL : protected static final java.lang.String BASE_SUPPORT_URL
• DRIVER_INFO : public static final java.lang.String DRIVER_INFO
• SESSION_ID : public static final java.lang.String SESSION_ID

About your individual usecase, the error tells it all :

WebDriverException: Element is not clickable at point (x, y). Other element would receive the click 

It is clear from your code block that you have defined the wait as WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10); but you are calling the click() method on the element before the ExplicitWait comes into play as in until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable).

Solution

The error Element is not clickable at point (x, y) can arise from different factors. You can address them by either of the following procedures:

1. Element not getting clicked due to JavaScript or AJAX calls present

Try to use Actions Class:

WebElement element = driver.findElement(By.id("navigationPageButton"));
Actions actions = new Actions(driver);
actions.moveToElement(element).click().build().perform();

2. Element not getting clicked as it is not within Viewport

Try to use JavascriptExecutor to bring the element within the Viewport:

WebElement myelement = driver.findElement(By.id("navigationPageButton"));
JavascriptExecutor jse2 = (JavascriptExecutor)driver;
jse2.executeScript("arguments[0].scrollIntoView()", myelement); 

3. The page is getting refreshed before the element gets clickable.

In this case induce ExplicitWait i.e WebDriverWait as mentioned in point 4.

4. Element is present in the DOM but not clickable.

In this case induce ExplicitWait with ExpectedConditions set to elementToBeClickable for the element to be clickable:

WebDriverWait wait2 = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10);
wait2.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.id("navigationPageButton")));

5. Element is present but having temporary Overlay.

In this case, induce ExplicitWait with ExpectedConditions set to invisibilityOfElementLocated for the Overlay to be invisible.

wait3.until(ExpectedConditions.invisibilityOfElementLocated(By.xpath("ele_to_inv")));

6. Element is present but having permanent Overlay.

Use JavascriptExecutor to send the click directly on the element.

executor.executeScript("arguments[0].click();", ele);

As you are using Selenium 3.14.0 as per the FirefoxDriver Class the valid constructors are:

• FirefoxDriver()
• FirefoxDriver(FirefoxOptions options)
• FirefoxDriver(GeckoDriverService service)
• FirefoxDriver(GeckoDriverService service, FirefoxOptions options)
• FirefoxDriver(XpiDriverService service)
• FirefoxDriver(XpiDriverService service, FirefoxOptions options)

So, as per your code attempts the following is not a valid option to invoke FirefoxDriver()

WebDriver driver = new FirefoxDriver(profile);

Solution

To invoke invoke FirefoxDriver() with the default profile you need to use the setProfile(profile) method to set the FirefoxProfile through an instance of FirefoxOptions() and you can use the following code block:

Once you have downloaded that,

In eclipse, find the jar in 'referenced libraries', right click -> properties

enter the location of the src, in the 'Java Source Attachment' edit box.

Why use java.awt.Robot when org.openqa.selenium.interactions.Actions.class would probably work fine? Just sayin.

May be helpful for others to solve this problem in chrome with the help of chrome extension. Thanks to @SubjectiveReality who gave me this idea.

Sending username and password as part of url like https://username:password@www.mytestsite.com may be helpful if same server performs both authentication and hosts the application. However most corporate applications have firmwide authentications and app server may reroute the request to authentication servers. In such cases, passing credentials in URL wont work.

Here is the solution:

#Step1: Create chrome extension#

1. Create a folder named 'extension'
2. Create a file named 'manifest.json' inside 'extension' folder. Copy below code into the file and save it.

4. Open chrome browser, go to chrome://extensions and turn on developer mode

5. Click 'Pack Extension', select root directory as 'extension' and pack extension. It should create a file with extension '.crx'

#Step2: Add extension into your test automation framework #

1. Copy the .crx file into your framework
2. Configure your webdriver creation to load the extension like

options.addExtensions(new File("path/to/extension.crx"));
options.addArguments("--no-sandbox");

3. Invoke your webdriver and application URL
4. You wont see the authentication popup appearing as its handled by above extension

I am using the following code to click the Escape or Enter.

we need to pause the selenium till previous command get executed successfully. So I am using the sleep() method. For my test case, I required to pause for 700 MillSec. Bases on your requirement you need to change the value.

I ran across this same problem and could not find any solutions. Came up with a solution and posting it here, hope this helps someone with the same problem. I created a class to handle stale elements depending on their type, cssselector, id, etc and simply call it like I would any other page object.

I'd recommend only using this on elements you know cause problems for WebDriver.

Here is how I am sending character by character using Selenium Webdriver (in Java). This way in the back-end, I verify at each letter press if the character exists in the input. Normal element.sendKeys() is not working well for me 2 out of 5 times - the last letter is missing, I guess something is buggy with Selenium Webdriver, I don't know. Try the code below, it works 100% of the time for me.

As you see, I get the value needed to be typed and in the for loop, I take each character, convert it to string and send it to textbox. Also, I have a search for xpath, you can change that to id, or classname, or whatever you want.
