How to use shouldWork method of org.mockito.internal.util.collections.IdentitySetTest class

Some tools to support some practices:

• xUnit tools family for testing
• EasyMock + PowerMock (alternatives: Mockito, JMock) for mocking
• Cobertura (alternatives: EMMA, Clover) for code coverage
• Checkstyle, FindBugs, PMD for static analysis
• Hudson (alternatives: TeamCity, Bamboo) for Continuous Integration
• Sonar as QA dashboard
• XWiki (alternative: Trac, Confluence) for documentation and Knowledge Management
• Review Board (alternatives: Crucible, SmartBear) for Code Review

But these are just tools, tools won't make you Agile by themselves.

Even more meaningful :

I recommend using Mockito's Hamcrest integration to write a good, clean matcher for it. That allows you to combine the verification with detailed checking of the passed argument:

Matchers generally lead to more readable tests and more useful test failure messages. They also tend to be very reusable, and you'll find yourself building up a library of them tailored for testing your project. Finally, you can also use them for normal test assertions using JUnit's Assert.assertThat(), so you get double use out of them.

The two syntaxes for stubbing are roughly equivalent. However, you can always use doReturn/when for stubbing; but there are cases where you can't use when/thenReturn. Stubbing void methods is one such. Others include use with Mockito spies, and stubbing the same method more than once.

One thing that when/thenReturn gives you, that doReturn/when doesn't, is type-checking of the value that you're returning, at compile time. However, I believe this is of almost no value - if you've got the type wrong, you'll find out as soon as you run your test.

I strongly recommend only using doReturn/when. There is no point in learning two syntaxes when one will do.

I agree with what @fge said, more over. Lets look at example. Consider you have a method:

Now if you want to check the inner data you can use the captor:

Mockito uses CGLib to generate class object. However to instantiate this class object it uses Objenesis http://objenesis.org/tutorial.html

Objenesis is able to instantiate object without constructor using various techniques (i.e. calling ObjectStream.readObject and similar).

I think the answer is no -- perhaps you could pull it off with some intense reflection wrangling, but if so I don't think it would be worth your time.

But I think (without seeing your method), you can probably still get full coverage on your method:

• If your method takes any action after catching the exception, assert or verify that those actions happened.
  
  
• If no action happens after catching the exception, assert or verify that whatever actions were supposed to happen but were cut off by the exception, didn't happen.
  
  
• Finally, (again, not seeing your method I don't know exactly what you're dealing with) if your method is void, and nothing happens after catching the exception, and the last line of logic is what can throw the exception, then consider making your method return a boolean, have it return false if the exception is caught and true otherwise. Then in your test, make a scenario that should cause the exception to be thrown and caught, and test that the method returns false.
  
  

If you're using Mockito, the simplest way to unit-test a default (AKA "defender") method is to make a spy¹ using the interface class literal². The default method can then be invoked on the returned spy instance as normal. The following example demonstrates:

You pass raw value there (as error already mentioned). Use matcher instead like this:
