ElementNotInteractableException

ElementNotInteractableException is the W3C exception which is thrown to indicate that although an element is present on the HTML DOM, it is not in a state that can be interacted with.

Reasons & Solutions :

The reason for ElementNotInteractableException to occur can be numerous.

1. Temporary Overlay of other WebElement over the WebElement of our interest :

   In this case, the direct solution would have been to induce ExplicitWait i.e. WebDriverWait in combination with ExpectedCondition as invisibilityOfElementLocated as folllows:

   WebDriverWait wait2 = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10);
   wait2.until(ExpectedConditions.invisibilityOfElementLocated(By.xpath("xpath_of_element_to_be_invisible")));
   driver.findElement(By.xpath("xpath_element_to_be_clicked")).click();
   

   A better solution will be to get a bit more granular and instead of using ExpectedCondition as invisibilityOfElementLocated we can use ExpectedCondition as elementToBeClickable as follows:

   WebDriverWait wait1 = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10);
   WebElement element1 = wait1.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.xpath("xpath_of_element_to_be_clicked")));
   element1.click();
   

2. Permanent Overlay of other WebElement over the WebElement of our interest :

   If the overlay is a permanent one in this case we have to cast the WebDriver instance as JavascriptExecutor and perform the click operation as follows:

Below are possible ways to run Selenium test-cases from JMeter:

• using JUnit Request Sampler;
• using BeanShell Sampler;
• using JSR223 Sampler + Groovy.

JUnit Request Sampler

Running Selenium tests this way maybe useful if you want to re-use already automated (Java) Selenium scenarios instead of re-writing JS-scripts for WebDriver Sampler.

Selenium RC

1. Prepare Selenium test project and setup.

   1.1. Download Selenium Java client libraries and put selenium-java-${version}.jar to JMeter classpath, e.g. %JMETER_HOME%/lib/.
   1.2. Selenium server should be up and listening:

   1.3. Export Selenium test-plan as .jar and save it to %JMETER_HOME%/lib/junit/.

   NOTE: Your test class should extend TestCase or SeleneseTestCase to allow JMeter pick up this test plan, test case's name should start with "test").
   NOTE: By default SeleneseTestCase extends JUnit 3.x TestCase, also SeleneseTestCase expects external Selenium server to be running.

2. Configure JUnit Request sampler

   2.1. In JMeter test-plan add JUnit Request sampler.
   Set Class Name according to one from the Selenium test plan.
   Set Test Method to test that is about to run.
   Leave other parameters by default.

   

   JUnit 3.x vs. 4.x
   JUnit Request Sampler can process both JUnit3- and JUnit4-style classes and methods. To set Sampler to search for JUnit 4 tests (@Test annotations) check Search for Junit4 annotations (instead of JUnit 3) checkbox in settings above.
   The following JUnit4 annotations are recognized:

   @Test - used to find test methods and classes. The "expected" and "timeout" attributes are supported.
   @Before - treated the same as setUp() in JUnit3
   @After - treated the same as tearDown() in JUnit3
   @BeforeClass, @AfterClass - treated as test methods so they can be run independently as required

3. You are ready to start your Selenium test with JMeter.

Common notes for BeanShell / JSR223 Sampler cases:

• Use external .bsh / .groovy files with test-scenario (Script file field) instead of using Beanshell / Groovy code directly in sampler for intensive testing.
• Since BeanShell / JSR233 Samplers have access to JMeter's variables you can set test (= sampler execution) status directly in test-scenario (via e.g. IsSuccess = STATUS or SampleResult.setSuccessful(STATUS), see code above), without using Response Assertion.

You might be using the browserbot to obtain a handle to the current window or document of the test. Fortunately, WebDriver always evaluates JS in the context of the current window, so you can use “window” or “document” directly.

Alternatively, you might be using the browserbot to locate elements. In WebDriver, the idiom for doing this is to first locate the element, and then pass that as an argument to the Javascript. Thus:

Here's a couple of reasons off the top of my head:

1) You can hook your selenium tests into your build process (and hence your CI process).

2) You can use JUnit assertions.

3) You can build up multiple suites of JUnit tests (which can then be run in parallel).

I'm sure there's more but I guess it depends on the number of tests you have and the size of the project you are working on. If you're project already has a set of JUnit tests then it's quite nice to be able to write selenium tests without too much effort.

In HouseholdCheck house = new HouseholdCheck(); you create new instance of BaseClass, where the driver was never initialized. You call houseCheck() as method and not run it as test so the setup() is not being executed.

One solution is to make the driver static

I'm not sure that you can prevent Selenium from creating a temporary Firefox Profile.

From the gecko documents:

"Profiles are created in the systems temporary folder. This is also where the encoded profile is extracted when profile is provided. By default geckodriver will create a new profile in this location."

The only solution that I see at the moment would require you modify the Geckodriver source files to prevent the creation of temporary folders/profiles.

I'm currently looking at the source. These files might be the correct ones, but I need to look at the source more:

In cases where the user needs to use custom, prepared profiles, geckodriver will make modifications to the profile that ensures correct behaviour. See [Automation preferences] below on the precedence of user-defined preferences in this case.

Custom profiles can be provided two different ways:

1. by appending --profile /some/location to the [args capability], which will instruct geckodriver to use the profile in-place;

Looking through the source of geckodriver v0.29.1 I found a file where the profile is loaded.

After looking through the gecko source it looks like mozprofile::profile::Profile is coming from FireFox and not geckodriver

It seems that you might have issues with profiles when you migrate to Selenium 4.

For Selenium 4 we have deprecated the use of profiles as there are other mechanisms that we can do to make the start up faster. Please use the Options class to set preferences that you need and if you need to use an addon use the driver.install_addon("path/to/addon") you can install selenium 4, which is in beta, via pip install selenium --pre

I noted in your code you were writing to user.js, which is a custom file for FireFox. Have you considered creating on these files manually outside of Gecko?

Also have you looked at mozprofile?

It seems text is wrapped inside a label and not input. Try this
