How to use MutableStrictJUnitTestRuleTest class of org.mockitousage.junitrule package

You may use the following:

model = Mockito.mock(Model.class);
final Map<Foo, List<Bar>> value = new HashMap<Foo, List<Bar>>();

Mockito.when(model.getValue()).thenAnswer(new Answer<Map<Foo, List<Bar>>> () {
  public Map<Foo, List<Bar>> answer(InvocationOnMock invocation) throws Throwable {
    return value;
  }
});

Above can be shortened using lambda as:

Mockito.when(model.getValue()).thenAnswer(invocationOnMock -> value)

Mockito 1.8.1 introduced anyVararg() matcher:

when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt(), Matchers.<String>anyVararg())).thenReturn(b);

Edit new syntax after deprecation:

when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt(), ArgumentMatchers.<String>any())).thenReturn(b);

the easiest way is this:

when(stmt.executeUpdate())
     .thenThrow(new SQLException("I have failed."))
     .thenReturn(1);

But a single method in a unit test should verify a single expectation about the codes behavior. Therefore the better way is to writ two separate test methods.

You can't mix matchers and non-matchers. Instead of "1", use Matchers.eq("1"). This creates a matcher that matches any string equal to "1", which satisfies both your needs (equal to "1") and Mockito's (both arguments are matchers).

Updating Plugin to version 0.13.3 fixes this issue.

Try adding this annotation to your Test class:

@PowerMockIgnore("javax.management.*")

Worked for me.

You can just write

verify(service).perform((Collection<String>) Matchers.argThat(contains("a", "b")));

From the compiler's point of view, this is casting an Iterable<String> to a Collection<String> which is fine, because the latter is a subtype of the former. At run time, argThat will return null, so that can be passed to perform without a ClassCastException. The important point about it is that the matcher gets onto Mockito's internal structure of arguments for verification, which is what argThat does.

There is a type-safe way: use ArgumentMatchers.any() and qualify it with the type:

ArgumentMatchers.<AsyncCallback<ResponseX>>any()

You can use Mockito's answers, so instead of:

Mockito.when(client.get(Mockito.any(Request.class))).thenReturn("100");

write:

Mockito.when(client.get(Mockito.any(Request.class)))
 .thenAnswer(new Answer() {
   Object answer(InvocationOnMock invocation) {
     Object[] args = invocation.getArguments();
     Object mock = invocation.getMock();
     return "called with arguments: " + args;
   }
});
